the reel in his post may be above the water, but solar covers sit directly on the water. if you stay on top of the maintenance you CAN, sort of, mostly, sweep or blow the leaves off when they are dry. but those covers only go to the inside edge of the pool (they depend on surface tension to stay in place, if too much excess hangs over the sides of the pool they are subject to going airborn) and therefore most of the stuff that lands on them generally makes its way to the sides and falls in. that is why I said earlier it is either a spring clean up mess or a constant maintenance chore. if there was a really good solution, it would be pinned to the top of this forum. LOL
I am not trying to be that jerk that just shuts down new ideas but there are some physics involved here and cost to benefit ratios that mostly don't work economically for a relatively small inexpensive pool situation.
so, again, if you come up with something that works, let others know (and file for a patent!)
