Hello TFP Friends,

Pool will be opened 1 week tomorrow (6/6). I've been on a daily SLAM mission each day over the last 6 days. The test results are calling for 4 gallons of liquid chlorine in order to meet my SLAM Target (12). Each morning when I re-test, the Free Chlorine is back to zero (0) each of the past 6 days and of course, I add another 4 gallons. Also, I notice floating specs on the water surface each morning - these specs cover the entire water surface.

Today's Test Results:
FC - 0
pH - 7.7
TA - 75
CH - 320
CYA - 30
Temp - 73'

Appreciate any feedback / suggestions you might have?

Perhaps I just need to wait it out and continue with the SLAM process?

Many thanks.

Please read the SLAM Process article. You need to be testing FC and adding chlorine several times per day. Anything less than 3-4 times per day will make this process very long.

How often are you testing and replenishing FC? If possible, do it every 3 hours, or as frequently as possible.

I am Year 2 into pool ownership. Last year, the same thing happened to me and I remember at the time feeling quite hopeless, like what is wrong with this pool, how could FC just vanish... (Also, for me, FC vanishes after 3 hours...) It got better within a week. I was adding FC every hour at the peak of it.

This year, none of this happened. I was only losing 5ppm daily from the beginning.

My point is: you will get there. Just stick to it.

Also, once, test about 30 mins after you add the chlorine to make sure that your liquid chlorine is the strength it says on the bottle. If you've already done this and you haven't changed suppliers, probably not necessary.
