Pool Bonding AGP: Nothing Metal to Screw into!

My new pool is being installed tomorrow. I purchased the pool from a friend of a friend for super cheap but it required me to dismantle it and bring it home. I found someone to assemble it for me but he informed me that he does not do the bonding. So... I have been reading everything I can find about bonding it. From what I gather, it is a lot easier to attach the 4 lugs for the 4 attachment points prior to assembly. I also know from the disassembly that the upright supports, tracking, well everything except for the pool wall are all made out of resin. So my question is... How do I attach the lugs to my pool if there is nothing metal to attach to other than the pool wall? Do I attach it to the resin and ensure that a portion of the copper is touching the pool wall? Or do I just skip part where I run the #8 copper wire around the entire pool and attach it at the 4 points? Any assistance is appreciated!

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

I suggest you do a search of the forum. You will get a lot of threads pertaining to your question. Use 'bonding resin above ground pool' in the search to the upper right on this page.

If you are interested in learning more about TFPC, I suggest you read Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Trouble Free Pool School book.

You may also want to get the Pool Math app.

I had this same question when studying the upcoming installation of my AGP. I spoke to the company I bought the pool from and since I have aluminum rails, they said the way they bond when doing the installs is to install a 1/2” self tapping screw into the bottom rail. I plan to do that at 3 points and then attach at the point where the wall bolts together for my 4th point. I would think for your application just the one point at the pool wall bolts would suffice,as long as your bottom rails, top rails, uprights -basically everything but the wall is resin.

Are you filing a permit. If so, I saw somewhere that one Inspector required someone with a setup like yours to install on 4 different wall screws. This is just plain stupid, but sometimes you can’t fix stupid. I really think just bonding my pool wall, the water (with the burndy waterbug -you can find it on amazon) and potentially my pump (will know once it arrives tomorrow) is all I need to do. But I am going to do the other 3 points just to satisfy and inspection and not have to argue my point.

Hope you get it figured out!

If the inspector in your area wants 4 points on the pool itself, you can bolt DB lugs onto the shell below the cove at the bottom of the pool or do it at the top of the shell and run the bond wires down the inside of the uprights. Regardless, you will still need to at least run the perimeter bond grid and connect it to the water and the equipment.
