So after 9 seasons I am finally having an issue with my Polaris 9650iQ. I was running it today and it seemed a little off. It wasn't doing a very good pattern on the pool floor. So I let it run and eventually I got an error on the console and the app. No number just an "error". I reset it and manually operated it. It will go reverse, left and right, but not forward. I assume something is going on with the gears. Anyone run across this and can provide advice? I'll probably take it apart and have a look see. It sucks because I just bought a new basket and new fine basket still in sealed packages!

Anyone? Beuller?

So here is my quandary... A brand new one is $1200. But I can get a "like new" used one for $672. The feedback on the used eBay indicate that they are basically new. Customer returns, display models, etc. Do I trust that?

I want to stick with 9400, 9500 or 9600 series because I was REALLY happy with this and I have 2 brand new baskets for it as well ($150). All 3 series take the same basket.

I plan on moving out of this house within 3-5 years and I will leave this with the pool. So longevity is really not a big concern.

What would YOU do?

PG,

Even if you don't buy one, it might be worth your while to check out the EVO 614iQ at Marina Pool and Spa for $800, no tax and free shipping..

They are made by Polaris.. They look very similar to one you have now.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hmmm. Kind of just seems like a dumbed down version of the 9650iq. And with the caddy, which I want, it's basically the same price. Also I'm not sure about the tracks. Seems they are the ones that get stuck on everything. And of course I have $150 worth of brand new baskets that only fit the 3 Polaris models.

PG,

The EVO does not get stuck on the main drains..

I would think the caddy that you have would work just fine..

You should buy whatever works best for you... I just thought it would be worth a look.

Do the baskets look the same?

Show me a couple of pics of your robot and your robot's power center.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Oh - LOL - I'm stupid. Yeah duh I can use me existing caddy. It looks the same. Now you got me thinking! I showed my wife and she said, "Get it!".

Not sure on the baskets but saving $600 kind of makes the new baskets moot. I wonder if they have a "fine" basket for this model?

PG,

Do you use the app at all?? If so, you would need the 614iQ, which has a scheduler and lets you drive it around, etc..

If not, the 604 is the same robot, but no scheduler.. no app.

It does not come standard with the extra fine basket.. They cost $50 bucks.. The question is will your baskets fit in the EVO??

Look at the pics in this Review... and see what the baskets look like.

Thanks,

Jim R.

For sure the baskets are different and incompatible. And I am having 2nd thoughts on that one. I am thinking of just getting the 9550 because I think I can turn it into a 9650iq just by using my control unit. Possibly even with the 9450. Trying to confirm that now.

I do use the app but mostly to just see the progress and if the basket is full. Occasionally I used the app's manual controls to steer the robot to some missed spots but very infrequently.

Got my new robot. I also got an email from Polaris that the 9550 can be controlled by the 9650iQ control panel but it will not increase the capabilities. It will not add Aqualink control. They say there is functionality built into the actual robot. Not sure I believe it but wasn't willing to find out for $100.

Now, should I use my old control unit and caddy, or the new one? I guess I could sell my old one for parts but I doubt anyone will pay anything for it.
