My local Home Depot is clueless what paint I can use for this aluminum piece around the top of my vynil. Does anyone have any recommendations? Something that would be durable with the water around. I want to paint that piece before the new vynil gets installed.

Rust-Oleum 206999 Marine Topside Paint, Gloss White, 1-Quart

About this item

  • Ideal for use on fiberglass, wood or metal surfaces above the waterline
  • Oil-based formula is flexible and applies easily with excellent leveling
  • Dries to the touch in as little as 1 to 2 hours and covers up to 100 sq ft
  • Durable coating resists abrasion and extreme weather conditions and provides long-lasting UV protection
  • Superior semi-gloss retention and smooth finish help maintain the beauty and elegance of your surfaces

Note that a gloss or semi-gloss will look slick and shiny and you might prefer a more flat matte finish.

You can paint with spray or brush.

A brush will look streaky in many cases.

For spray, you can get spray paint or use a separate sprayer.

You need to mask off the coping for spraying.

Don't allow paint to get in the track too much as that can interfere with the liner going in.

If the old liner is in place, that should give pretty good protection for the liner channel.

Some paint will do better with a primer, so see what the instructions say.
