Hi, we just recently changed the sand in our S244T Hayward Sand Filter, parts were spread out for a few days on the ground before putting it back together, came across this part and do not remember seeing it and have no idea where it goes. looked at online manual and parts diagram and its not listed. Any ideas? It appears to be a lid, it reads 'Tighten' with an arrow and 'Loosen' with and arrow and 'Do Not Discard'. My husband put sand filter back together without this piece since we couldn't locate an area for it to go, but I feel it needs to be in there somewhere, but I guess it could possibly be from something else but not sure what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. View attachment 62302

Good job on looking up the parts list and such. My next step would be to send this to Swimming Pool Supplies - Pool Parts - INYOPools.com and see what they say. They are my go to place for things like this.

Did you use a shopvac to help clear out the water/sand? It looks to me like the shopvac filter cap that keeps the filter in place.
I agree 100 percent with babeard....that looks exactly like the cap that holds the dry paper element filter in a shop- vac
ding, ding, ding! I bet we have a winner!!!! That is just what mine looks like! Good job!

Interesting! Now -- just think - you should never need to change sand in a sand filter! So you should not have this problem again!
