My husband and I are going to open up our fiberglass pool today. We hired a pool company to do this last year so we want to make sure that we remember how to un-winterize everything. Please critique our opening plan to make sure we are doing everything in the proper order and haven’t left anything out.
(FYI - we only have a pump and a sand filter. Our pool has 2 returns & 1 skimmer. We have to put the plugs back in the equipment before we put the returns back in because our pool equipment is downhill from our pool).
1. Put the plug back into the Superflo VST Variable Speed pump
2. Put the plug back into the Hayward sand filter & put sight glass & gauge back in & secure gauge with plumbing tape
*We have to do these 2 things first since our pool equipment is downhill from our pool. If the plugs aren’t put in before the return eyeballs are put back in and gizmo is taken out, water will go everywhere.
3. Take out winterizing plugs in each return and put return eyeballs back in
4. Take gizmo out of skimmer
5. Fill up Superflo VST pump with water
6. Turn electricity back on so pump and sand filter will work again
7. Move sand filter multiport to the “filter” mode
8. Move pool valve so its half way between the skimmer and main drain
9. Turn on pump.
If I'm missing any steps or need to do things in a different order, please let me know. My husband and I haven't opened up our pool ourselves for several years so we want to make sure we are doing everything correctly.
