Just curious what issues would I run into if I kept PH between 7.0-7.2 all the time?

I have an IG Vinyl Pool with a heater. My reason for wanting to keep the PH at those levels is due to my yearly issue with iron. I'm on city water, I perform the AA treatment and multiple water exchanges but it keeps coming back after every couple of years.

Would not hurt. Watch your TA. TA and pH like to get in equilibrium. And that does not happen at low pH levels.

I'm going to be testing multiple times daily for at least the next couple of weeks. I just opened the pool on Monday and noticed the staining after adding chlorine. Right now PH is around 7.6 and alk is around 80.

Have you considered a whole house water softener used for your refills into your pool. Pricey fix but will REMOVE the iron both in your pool and your house.

How pricey? I'm looking into getting a SWG this year but may skip on it and get that instead.

Whole house water softener does not replace a SWG. SWG is used to generate chlorine for you pool. Whole house water softener has nothing to do with that.

I was going to buy a SWG this year.

But depending on the cost of the whole house water softener filter, I can buy that instead to take care of my yearly iron issues.

If you install yourself, you can pickup a high capacity unit(48K grains), with smart features for less than $800.00 at one of the big box stores. Sometimes Costco also carries a GE model that is slightly smaller.

If you have a loop in the house, it is easy. If not, it becomes a little more challenging. I haven't connected mine for fill, but I also have very good water (low calcium, etc).
