Hello, I can't get my PH to come down for the last week. Prior to that everything had been perfect. (Although the ph would never go below 7.8)/Then we did the weekly cleaning and shocking and everything went wonky. At first the chlorine would not go down from 10 total chlorine, and free chlorine was high. We drained and added fresh water Stopped adding tablets, and added ph down. Also added oxidizer which brought the chlorine down. But TA and PH were still high. After adding more ph down, the TA is down to 180 but ph is still at 8.4. Total chlorine is now at 5 and free chlorine is 3 for the last 3 days. The weather had been very hot, and now it's down in the 60s. Two days ago also added Clorox 6 n 1., which brought the CYA up to 100 but it has since come down to 50.

How are you testing your water? I am guessing from the pool store, which is notoriously inaccurate. Do yourself, your pool, and your wallet a favor and invest in one of the recommended test kits. The modest upfront cost will save you big bucks long term.

Once you have a test kit in hand, report back with all levels and we'll go from there.

it was hinted at above, but the test method you’re using cannot be accurate if the CYA went from 100 to 50 in two days, unless of course you drained off 1/2 of the water and refilled with fresh. Heres a link to the test kits we recommend and base all the advice on.
