Good morning everyone, I've got a question about pH versus Total Alkalinity. I do not have a problem, or at least I don't think I do, but I wanted to get advice on pH versus TA. My pool is 16,200 gal. pebble tec, and I use liquid chlorine. I use tablets with stabilizer too, but only go through about 1-2 tablets every few weeks. My CYA is around 35-40, chlorine levels are maintained around 4-5, and my pH usually drifts up around 8, TA is usually around 70-80. Other parameters measured are in range and my water is very clear, looks good, and smells good. So no real issues, but I feel like I chase my tail some when it comes to pH and TA. I lower my pH to 7.5-7.6, which is good, but then my TA falls to around 65-70, so then I raise the TA to 90-100, and the pH goes up to 8. Then I lower the pH to 7.5, and the TA drops back down to 65-70. And I find myself continually adjusting one of these only to have the other one out of balance. Should I worry about these items to this level of detail? If not, which one should I consider more, maybe make the pH 7.5 and just live with the TA around 65-70? Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated.

When your TA is 60-80, stop lowering your pH below 7.8. pH should be fairly stable between 7.8 and 8.0 with a TA of 60-80.

A pH of 7.8 to 8.0 is just fine.

Stop adding baking soda.

You are on the baking soda / MA seesaw. It's an unwinnable battle, so don't try to fight it. Manage the pH, and let the TA settle where it's happy. TA down to 50 is perfectly fine.

I was wondering if that was the case, thank you for that information.
