pH of 12?

I think it's only about a 7,000 gallon pool, so that's only 25 pounds of lye. Totally do-able! =D
Some people buy sodium hydroxide in bulk for things like making soap, so it is possible that someone added Lye (sodium hydroxide) to their pool, but it seems super unlikely.

Some of the Many Common Uses:
Drain Cleaning (dissolves fats and oils into soaps, eats organic material)
Soft Pretzel Making
Soap Making
Peeling of fruits & vegetables
Cocoa Processing
Biodiesel Production
Cleaning grease from grease traps, exhaust hoods and fryers
Olive Curing
Paint Removal
Aluminum Etching
Relaxer to help straighten hair (users must be cautious of potential burns when using for this method)

I also doubt it. It's just a post in a different pool group, and they aren't interested in my theory that their meter might not be accurate. I don't need to convince them, just wanted a quick reality check for myself!
I had to see myself out of other pool groups- I just don’t need the stress…

I also tried helping others in other forums and quickly found out, some people don't want help. Even friends and family don't want help. I see their cloudy pool that they tell me it's safe to swim, just had a couple of bad rain storms they say.

Case in point had a new client several years back brand new pool turned green. He called me for help and ran the full gamma of levels and came up with the game plan to slam. While slamming he turns back on his expensive ozone system that I warned him against using, "BUT I SPENT $2.5K ON IT"
and the slam isn't progressing. I disconnected the power to it and completed the slam. Now all is perfect and decided to use LC and stay on the hot side for a bid to be sure we're in control. Then he starts with this rant "oh chlorine to high, must be lower..." I ended up installing the RJ60 and uninstaled the ozone. Then I walked away when I caught him funkying around with the chemistry between visits sending me in circles. Thank you but NO thank you. If you know pool maintenance then you don't need me and I wouldn't want your money, Done.
