Ph keeps creeping up.

My pH keeps bumping up to just under 8.0. Everything seems to be in order except Im having to add a lot of acid to keep ph down. I’ve added 50oz in the last 7 days. This seems like a lot to me but I’m new at this.
Been mostly sunny and hot here in N. Texas. Did get 1/2” of rain the other night. Should I dump a half gallon in there to bring ph to lower end of scale, especially since I’m leaving town for 5 days?

The pH will always naturally rise faster especially if you have any aeration going on (water fall, etc). It’ll also slow down once your TA get down to 60 or so. A pH of 8 isn’t going to hurt anything for a few days if you leave town.

Anything that causes disturbance to the water surface like pointing jets up or water features, with cause a PH rise. Once you achieve a PH of 8.0, add enough 31.45% muriatic acid to reduce the PH to 7.2 using pool math for the dosage rate. As the PH is lowered with muriatic acid, your total alkalinity will also decrease, as Bperry said, when the total alkalinity is in the range of about 60, your PH rise should slow down. Also reducing any surface disturbance (aeriation) will help slow down the PH increase.

Based on your signature it looks like you have 3 water features and the IC20 SWG. All of those will contribute to slowly increasing your pH. As the others before me said, just keep with it, keep monitoring, and you'll eventually get into a good routine.

You know I just pointed the jets up higher the other day and my PH took a jump so that would explain the jump.
