We have a well. Very high pH. The test kit and tests done at pool store always read 8.2. It is higher than that because I add a gallon of acid and it's still the same. 1 add another gallon and it may lower some. Yes I'm doing it right, had a pool for 20+ years, but this is only my 2nd summer with the salt system. So here's my actual question. Is there a test kit that shows the whole pH scale from 0-14? I find many test strips online but I don't trust them. I have 3 different brands, purchased from pool stores and they all read that pH is 7.6ish. I have a salt generator and it's not making chlorine. 0 in pool, so I know pH is way too high. Salt level is good. Water is clear and looks great. I want it to stay that way. It's not going to in 95° with no chlorine being produced. I appreciate your help!

Get an Apera pH20 pH Meter with calibrating solutions. Calibrate regularly and it will do fine.

High pH will not affect your SWG. So whatever the problem is why it is not working it is not due to your high pH.

Keep adding acid to lower pH in 0.3 increments every 15-30 minutes until you get your pH into the 7's.

No magic to it. Just lots of acid.

Use PoolMath to calculate the amount of acid to use to lower the pH from 8.0 to 7.2.

As you can see, the TA determines how much acid to use.

If the TA is 100, you use 53 oz acid.

If the TA is 200, then you would use 100 oz of acid etc.
