Opened the pool a few weeks ago. Slammed and scrubbed thoroughly. Successfully passed the OCLT test multiple days in a row at SLAM levels. Scrubbed again.

Balanced all chemicals and brought the FC to normal levels.

The water continues to be hazy after a week of 24/7 pump running. I performed another OCLT with normal chlorine levels and passed.

In rereading the OCLT documentation, it states that you only pass successfully if the water is crystal clear. However, my chlorine is not dropping and my CC is zero.

The only thing I can think of is that we have a decent amount of Cottonwood’s in our neighborhood? FWIW I use skimmer socks.

Could a low TA cause this?

Do I just need to continue to be patient? I don’t recall this being issue in past years, however, this is only my second summer with this new pump and filter. I’m hesitant to SLAM again because I don’t want to spend the money on chlorine if that’s not the problem.

FC: 4.0
CC: 0 (_Maybe_ .5)
pH: 7.4
TA: 60
CH: 50
CYA: 30

Thanks all!

A couple things...

Yes, patience...Sand filters take the longest to clear, especially with a 30K gallon pool...have you tried DE in your filter? May help...no garden or kitchen DE, use pool DE.

TA is not your problem. 60 is GREAT!!!

I would increase and maintain your FC. 4 is awful close to minimums. Target is 5-7. Hate to see you back in a slam. Always follow this..Link-->FC/CYA Levels

Thank you for the quick reply!

Crud, my signature wasn’t updated. I thought it was 🤦‍♂️ Must not have hit save. Long story short, I have a cartridge filter now: Pentair Clean&Clear+ (CCP420; Cartridge). I’ve only ever had a sand filter before this, so that’s part of why I’m puzzled.

Your numbers look good. Sometimes our water gets a bit dull or "off" and we and TFP'ers know it right away. Continue what you're doing. You might even consider letting the FC ride just a little bit higher than normal for a ocuple days since you seem to have a lot of junk landing on the water. You're passing OCLTs so technically there is no need to be at SLAM level, but a slightly stronger FC may help over the weekend.
