Persistent Algae problem.

Hello all. Have an above ground 12X24 pool that for the last three years I've had green algae problems. I've never drained the pool completely in the last 8 years so I figure doing that can't hurt. The question is what's the procedure when I get most of the water out? Should I scrub the heck out of the pool liner with something like bleach before I refill it? Pressure wash the inside of the liner? I have a 100lb sand filter that I replace the sand every season. Thanks for your help.

Hello.

I see you have been a forum member for the past 3 years also.

No need to drain. Are you familiar with the SLAM Process procedure?

If you follow that procedure, and always maintain the proper FC to CYA ratio, as well as routinely brush and vacuum, algae will be a thing of the past.

Also, no need to change the sand every season, or any season for that matter.

Do you own a FAS/DPD test kit?

Agree with dom. There is no reason to drain a pool, other than liner change or to lower CYA, with the latter being done by partially draining the pool.
