Permanently installing ball valve on filter drain plug

I have a Pentaire FNS Plus 60 that is really difficult to remove the drain when I do a full filter disassemble/clean 2-3 times a year. I would like to install a ball valve with a pipe so I can route the water into the yard away from when equipment is installed. Any downsides or risks as to why I wouldn't want to permanently install a ball valve on the filter drain plug for when I deep clean the filter?

Nope. But spend the bucks on a decent valve. The cheap red-handled PVC ball valves always end up sticking and the handles break off.

I'm pretty sure the drain plug has standard pipe threads. If it was me I'd install a threaded reducer and maybe stick a hose bib on there. Then you can connect a garden hose. Tons easier than wrestling with a backwash hose.

Great idea about the garden hose! Thanks!
