Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of advice or suggestions. I currently have Pentair SuperFlo VS 2.2 that just died yesterday after 7 years. Although I'm not particularly happy that it died rather quickly, I was just going to replace it with the exact same model. However, my pool guy is recommending the Jandy FloPro VS 1.65 hp because in his experience he said it's just a better more reliable pump. That being said, while I do trust and value his opinion, I'm concerned the difference in total hp is going to be significant. He said for my set up the 2.2 hp from Pentair is overkill and rarely operated at the max hp. He's not wrong since the highest I would set the RPM was 3200 when the suction line was running for the cleaner for 3 hours. The other 8 hours it would circulate water at 1200 RPM.

My pool is a 16,000 gallon standard 15x30 rectangular pool. My equipment comprises of a Hayward T-15 salt cell, Jandy CS150 filter, and a Gulfstream HE150 heat pump. My pool guy installed the Jandy filter and heat pump and they've been both great so far. Overall, my concern is the cleaner which is connected to the dedicated suction line will struggle with the lower hp pump. I know without looking at my pool and distance of the equipment it's rather difficult to assess, but do any of you think the Jandy will be a suitable replacement. Or should I just stay with the Pentair? The price is roughly the same with the Jandy being $50 cheaper. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

At 3200, the pentair will flow ~57GPM. The Jandy should flow about 55GPM. I don't think you will notice a difference. Have him guarantee the cleaner will work.

I asked him and he said it should not be a problem at all but he also wouldn't guarantee anything. I've known him for some time and that's just not the type of person he is. I did ask him about the 1.85 hp Jandy but apparently that one is not available at the moment. Is the Jandy a much better product in your opinion? He swears the Jandy is and frankly I'm a little annoyed that the Pentair died on me an early 7 years in. I'm not against giving the Jandy a try but don't want to risk the cleaner having issues. Also, for what it's worth the cleaner I have is the Pentair Rebel two-wheel, which is essentially the same as the two-wheel Poolvergnuegen Pool cleaner.

Chevy or Ford...your choice. Most Jandy owners think their systems are better, and most Pentair owners think their systems are better.

Jandy has more propriety stuff that lock you into paying their prices. Jandy has stricter no-warranty on equipment bought on the Internet than Pentair. Pool companies like selling Jandy because it locks their customers more into servicing and purchasing from "pool professionals'. If you are not a DIYer, and have a good pool company, Jandy is fine.

My OPINION. Jandy stuff is ok. Pentair stuff seems to be of higher quality and has better business practices.

I really appreciate your thoughts. My pool professional has his own company, so it's just him. I only use him for equipment services and when I have any issues which is honestly seldom. Honestly, I thought the Pentair SuperFlo was pretty good when it worked. Never had any issues until yesterday when it died out of nowhere. I'm just perplexed it only lasted 7 years. The previous pump I had was a Hayward single-speed and that thing lasted well over 12 years. As much as my pool guy likes Jandy, I might just stick with the Pentair again. If he could get the 1.85 hp I would feel better and go with the Jandy just to give them a try but the 1.65 hp worries me a bit. Thanks again for helping me think this through.
