Pentair Screenlogic - Spillway Feature Programming

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to program my Pentair Easytouch 8 to have the spillway feature work. I have two three-way actuated valves that control the pool/spa suction and return lines to my new pool. So far I have been manually switching one of the valve actuators (pool/spa return valve) to send pool water to the spa for a spill-over effect but I would really like to know how to program Pentair Screenlogic app to do it remotely with my phone. I have downloaded the PC configuration tool and the SLConfig app on my Iphone but I can't seem to figure out how to use these programs to make the return valve operate independently and create the spillway feature. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
In SLConfig, go to Setup Circuits.
Select an unused Feature, you can rename it Spillway if you wish, and select Spillway as the Circuit Function.
Then you can set up a schedule to run Spillway.

On the PC, Go into Configure Screenlogic, Setup Circuits page, same as above --

Thanks for the reply. I set up feature 3 as spillway with the function assigned as spillway and left it in the features section. I hear the panel click when I select it but nothing happens at all. Not sure what the issue could be.

Are you in Pool Mode when you select it?

Also, did you assign a pump speed to it? I suspect that is the issue. See page 4 in the Config screen.

I just assigned the pump speed to that spillway feature at 2200 rpm and now it comes on when I select feature 3. The valves do not move still.

Do the valves move when you select Spa? The Spillway just moves the return valve. Be sure the actuator is turned on.

Yes I am in pool mode and the valves will move over when I select spa mode. Selecting spillway currently has no effect on the return valve when I’m in pool mode. FYI my valve assignments are both LC1 Spa.

The valves should not show on the Valve Assignments page. The Intake and Return valves have their own slots in the ET.

Valves A and B on the Valve Assignments page are for the two additional actuators the ET can control.

You need to look at the back of the ET board and be sure your valves are connected to Intake and Return.

You were correct! I switched the wiring for the actuators from A and B to intake and return and now the spillway circuit functions properly. One concern I have is that the heater will continue to run if the spillway circuit was accidentally turned off. The return valve would switch over from spa to pool with the heater on and I’m concerned that it would briefly cause a no flow condition and possibly damage the heater. Is there a way to interlock the valves with the heater so the don’t operate unless the heater is off?

Hmmm. I will have to look at that. The heater will not operate without flow through it as there is a pressure switch. Spillway should not be automatically associated with Heat.

Is Spa Manual Heat selected on Page 3 of Configure Screenlogic?

Also, you can uncheck Pump Off during valve action. There is no need to stop the pump while the valves move.

Doesn’t seem to matter what I change the valve will switch over with the heater running causing a brief no flow condition.

If the pump is running while the valves move, there is never a no flow situation moving the intake and return valves.

For a brief moment when the return valves is switching over between pool and spa line the flow stops when the valve is half way through its cycle, it deadheads as the actuator isn’t letting water through. It’s only for 1-2 seconds but the boiler does not like if it is running. It’s enough to spike the temp in the exchanger and I’m worried over time it may damage it.

That is odd. The flow should be split between pool and spa the instant the valve moves. The plumbing must be different.
I do not know of any way to tell the heat to turn off when the valves move.

I figured it out. I couldn’t spin the actuators as a the pump and chlorinated were too close. I moved the cams inside the actuator heads to spin the valve stems the other way. Now the valve doesn’t choke the outlet of the 3-way valve when operated. Thanks for your help MKnauss!
