I believe the large o-ring used to seal the top and bottom filter body together is EPDM. I've been using silicone grease for pools on this o-ring and over the years, I've noticed a pretty hard-ish buildup of what I guess is a grease/DE film coating the rubber. Is anyone aware of a solution that can remove this from the o-ring? I tried soaking it in soapy warm water using Dove dishwashing detergent, but quite a bit is still caked on there. It doesn't appear to be affecting the seal, but it would be nice if I could get it all off. Obviously a strong solvent would likely damage the rubber material.

Do you have a picture of what you use?

A silicone spray lube works as a pretty good cleaner.

Spray the silicone on a rag and "Push" the O-ring through the rag.

Do not pull the O-ring through the rag as that will stretch the O-ring.

I use the Super Lube with PTFE:

I do have some silicone spray I can try, using a lint free rag. That might loosen up the surface of the rubber so it can be wiped off.
