I know Im not a turd, so that leaves pentair being turds and making removal of the strainer pot assembly some form of black magic!!:grrrr:
Whats the secret please?

Tap the cover tabs counter clockwise to remove. Its likely you've never lubricated the o-ring which has made it very tough to remove. Get some o-ring lubricant, or 100% silicone grease, and apply it to the seal on the cover. The basket cover only needs to be snug when putting it on.
