I went out to fire up my Pentair MasterTemp 400 Pool Heater for the first time this season and found it to be dead. I checked power coming into the heater, then opened it up to look for fuses and found the 24VAC fuse. The Fireman's switch had already been jumped. I check on the bottom side of the fuse and read ~ 24VAC, checked on the controller side and it was ~ 0VAC. I ran a jumper across the fuse to see if I could bring the controller back to life and something on the controller board popped and smoked. The story I am going with at the dinner table is the controller board was bad, had a short, blew the fuse and needed to be replaced.

I happened across this site while looking for a replacement board and thought I'd ask one of the experts if there is anything else I should look at before I go out and purchase a new controller board, I am thinking at a minimum a visual inspection to confirm I can find the blown component? If anyone has a recommendation as to the best place to pick-up a replacement it would be very much appreciated!
