Pentair used to have bonding lugs on the outside of the canister of the Magicstream deck jet. The new ones I just picked up do not have any bonding lugs. The manual even mentions they need to be bonded, but they are all plastic. Anyone know what changed? I will call Pentair in the morning as well.

Welcome to TFP.

What did you learn in your call to Pentair?

Their manual is incorrect, as it specifically says the canister needs to be bonded and even shows it in the picture on page 9. They were unaware of that and said it needs no bonding because it’s all plastic construction. They didn’t really seem to be concerned the manual is contradictory. What my inspector is going to say will be another story… we’ll see if he takes my word for it. But NEC 680.26 is pretty clear and would agree that these need no bonding, in my opinion.

The manual indicates a bond lug is provided.

Maybe the older models were brass and required bonding?

If something comes with a bond lug, then you bond it.

If something does not come with a bond lug, then you usually do not need to bond it.

"WARNING To avoid dangerous or fatal electrical shock hazard, all metal items within 5 ft (1.5 m) of the pool or spa must be properly electrically bonded to a reliable grounding point.

The Laminar canister must be properly electrically bonded and grounded via the NO. 8 AWG ground connector located on the side of the canister."
