Pentair LED lights bad

Hello just wanted to get advice regarding outage of my pool LED lights that are made by Pentair called Intellibright 5G.

They were installed in July 2015. All of a sudden they stopped working I had an electrician come out who said they’re getting power but both lights are bad.

My question is that is this normal for LED lights to go out that quickly?
I was under the impression that LED lights have 20 to 30000 hours of use time.
I have two more LEDs that are in the Jacuzzi and under the waterfall and those are working fine.
It’s just the two pool lights that went out at the same time.
I would appreciate any advice on this matter thank you so much.

d,

I would find it odd if they both quit working at exactly the same time.. To me that would more likely be a GFCI or wiring connection issue..

That said, any average electrician could figure that out in 5 minutes, so if your electrician is trustworthy, then I suspect he is right.

In general, Pentair lights do not have a great track record.. Use the search box in the upper right corner of your screen to see threads on this subject..

Thanks,

Jim R.

The LEDs last 20,000 to 30,000 hours. The electronic circuit boards that drive the LEDs are often the weak link and fail way before the LEDs.

I have an intellibrite 5g board with a blown LED driver chip... it has the thin aluminum heatsink (the "board" itself is the heatsink) and I will call it the "Rev 1" board. Like ajw22 said, these failed frequently and Pentair came out with a "Rev 2" board with a heavier heat sink made of copper instead of aluminum. Which Rev have you got?

I share Jim's thought that it's strange they both went out at the exact same time, so I'm thinking about how to debug this...

Are your lights powered by a transformer only, or a transformer fed by a Pentair Intellibrite controller? The Intellibrite controllers can go bad too (it's got an scr/triac inside that burns out), so if you want to troubleshoot the lights you'll want to eliminate any other potential causes of faults. Best bet is if you have a handy source for 12 volts AC you can connect it to the board's quick connect terminals and it should turn on.

Here's the thread Dirk started on the Intellibrite 5g:
