Pentair IC30 won’t power on fully

I have a Pentair iChlor salt cell that was installed as part of a new build about 1.5 years ago.

Earlier this week, my pool cleaner noticed there was no power going to it. At the most this would have been out for a few days.

After unplugging it from the power and taking the cell ‘apart’ to clean it with some acid spray but informed me that it looks clean. Next they took the lid off the power unit and they noticed that the fuse was probably the issue

So I replaced the fuse and switched the power on today. The lights on the salt cell come on for a few seconds, then they go out. The new fuse remains intact. This happens each time I switch the power on & off.

I have a 10 sec video of it here.

Unfortunately I didn’t register is within the 60 day window of install (had a major issue with the pool builder and life gets in the way with young kids) even now I can’t get to the serial # sticker as it’s underneath the unit and as it’s so close to the ground I can’t read it.

Does anyone have any tips as to what the issue would be?

Dave,

The External SWCG power supplies are known to have faulty fuse holders... Is the little green light on the board inside the power supply on?? If not I would temporary jumper the fuse holder and see if the cell works.

If the power supply is sending 35 to 40 volts DC to the cell, then the cell is bad.

If the system was installed by a pool builder, then he should have sent in the warranty paperwork.. I would remove the cell to get the S/N and call Pentair anyway...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Yes it is. After I put in the new fuse and turned the power on I saw this.

Not sure if it is, I'd have to test and learn how to do it first!

Interesting, but I doubt he did given the major issues we had with them over the course of the build. I just learned from my cleaner that I could unscrew the sides of the cell to flip it and get to the S/N sticker.

I've just registered 3 of my 4 products on the Pentair website, strangely the Intelliflo VSF said my S/N was either invalid or already registered. Also I don't have a installation receipt (the Pool Builder didn't supply it) nor a sales receipt - I submitted the draw schedule so I hope this is OK. The Pool Builder wasn't responsive at the best of times.

Thanks,
Dave

I had that unit and noticed it didn't work right in cold water (<75). I always had issues of no lights at beginning and end of season. I went down the electrical route and was told unit was getting juice. I also noticed it worked better if I covered it up so water wasn't getting in the cover. This year was going to be my year to finally confirm my suspicions but when I opened there was a leak at the flow switch so my unit was toast. I bought the dummy bypass cell and am using chlorine till I buy new IC40 to replace my iCHLOR. My layman hope for you is as your water warms your unit will light up...or if your water is warm maybe covering the unit will help.

Just an update :

I emailed Pentair and they confirmed the warranty wasn’t affected due to late registration. Furthermore they honored the extended warranty for all 4 products since it was a bundle.
I then called for tech support & they raised a warranty claim. The assigned company came out today and replaced it in all of 15 mins!

The field tech assumed the circuit board in the salt cell had gone, so just replaced it.

Happy days!
