Pentair filter cracking

I have a Pentair 4000 series DE filter. It's maybe 5 years old, don't remember exactly.

Last month, a crack developed on the top half, near the bottom where it seats on the bottom. That was an expensive part, but we got it and it worked just fine.

Now the bottom half has a crack! Had I known this was going to happen I would have got a whole new filter in August. But at this point I just ordered the part again. At least I'll have a whole new body.

Is this a thing with Pentair filters? Seems weird that these cracks happened one after the other.

I don't think your problem is a thing with Pentair filters. However it seems that your cracking was environmental and affected both halfs of the filter case. It just took a bit longer for the lower half cracks to show.

My filter took about 8 years to crack the top half and 22 years to crack the bottom half. At least you only needed the shells, like I did, so you didn't have to pay for the other parts in it.

What do you mean environmental? It never freezes here if that's what you meant?

Maybe something banged into it at some time.

Could have been dropped during manufacturing or shipping.
