Pentair EayTouch 8 - No power on panel

My pumps weren't working so I checked the panel. There was no power on the panel. I reset all of the breakers, but the power did not come back on. The panel is 9 years old. There is a gfci on the right side of the panel box, I checked that, there isn't a light to say that it is on, but when I do the test/reset I do see a red light. The main pump is running now, it has it's own breaker and I set it manually.

What are my next steps to trouble shooting before I spend ~$500 on a new panel board?

Thank you for any help!

tx,

When you say you reset all the breakers, did you reset the three or four breakers in the upper right corner of the main panel? Did you push the reset button just below the aux buttons?

Do you have a voltmeter? If so, the first thing I'd want to know is..

1. Does the main power input to the Easytouch Enclosure have 240 volt?

2. If like my EasyTouch, power comes in and gets sent to a transformer to supply power to the main PCB.

a. What voltage is on the primary side of this transformer?
b. What voltage is on the output side of this transformer?

3. Do any of your aux circuits work, such as your pool light?

4. Sometimes they run internal circuits off the GFCI outlet in the lower right side of the enclosure. Ensure it is operating my plugging in a light or drill or anything that takes 115 VAC power.

If nothing works, then take a couple of pics of your enclosure with the circuit breakers visible. One showing all the insides best you can..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Daylight savings got me, the pictures are all in the dark.

a. What voltage is on the primary side of this transformer? Not sure where to put the voltmeter prongs
b. What voltage is on the output side of this transformer?

3. Do any of your aux circuits work, such as your pool light? The lights are controlled through the panel, and none of those have a switch I can check, only the pump lets me turn it on

The resets at the top don't push or do anything.

Tx,

Well, I "assumed" that a single power line ran into your EasyTouch to a number of circuit breakers.. but that is not the case.

So best I can tell from the pictures, the GFCI in the lower right of your panel is for your pool light. Check with your voltmeter between the bottom two wires on the GFCI and see if you have 120 VAC.

The next thing that I would do is check between the ground lug with all the green wires at the bottom middle of the panel and all the black wires and see of any of them have 120 VAC.

I "assume" that the conduit going out the bottom on the right side goes to the light. Do you know where the conduit in the middle and the one on the left go?

Does power come in the back of your panel at the lower left?

Do you know if your system is run off of 120 VAC or 220 VAC? What kind of pump do you have?

At this point I'm guessing that you should have more than one "pool" circuit in your house electrical panel???

Also, Is the GFCI switch you show in the middle picture a different GFCI than the one located in the bottom right of your panel?

Ok, So thank you for your guidance. The main power comes in through the 3 lines on the bottom left through the circle. I traced them back to the pool sub panel. I had 2 bad BR120 breakers. I shut off the power and replaced the breakers. The board came back on line. Yeah! $6.40 (breakers) + $38 for the voltmeter.

On to mystery #2. Once the board was online, the cleaner and pump light are on, but they are not running.
I checked the schedule and they should be. When I pushed the cleaner button on the board, the breaker shut off.

Any ideas?

tx,

Good work on finding the bad CB's...

Just to make sure I understand. The "cleaner" light is above Aux 1, is that correct? The "Pump" light is above the "F" button, is that correct? If so...

In your first post you said that you manually turned the pump on... did you reconnect the pump to the EasyTouch? My thought is.. if you can turn the pump on/off without the EasyTouch, then how does the ET control the pump at all?

You say that when you push the "cleaner button" (Aux 1) that the breaker shuts off (or trips). If this is true then it sounds as if the booster pump is bad or has a short in the wiring to the pump.

Your ET is an older version, and not set up like mine, so I can't tell for sure which relay is which. If you can give me the following info I can see what else to suggest:

1. Which conduit going out bottom of your ET goes to which pump/feature?
2. Do you have a SWG? It looks like you do..
3. What kind of main pump.. VS, Single speed, two speed?
4. Do you have a booster (cleaner) pump?
5. Do you have any additional pumps? What kind?

Sorry for all the questions but I don't want to suggest something that will damage you or your equipment.

This is why we ask everyone to fill out their signature .. it eliminates most questions.

Thanks,

Jim R.

1. Booster towards the middle, intelicholr and thermal to the far left.
2. Not sure what a SWG is.
3. The inteliflo for the main pump 3hp.
4. Yes
5. No additional pumps.

I updated my signature, thank you for that.

The conduit goes to the booster pump. It didn't trip on the schedule, so I checked it manually. It is getting 120v out of the box and down to the booster pump, but it doesn't kick on now.

I probably just need to replace the booster. It will be my 2nd or 3rd booster.

Tx,

Or... you could step into this Century and just replace your old fashioned pressure side cleaner with a more modern Robot cleaner, which does away with the need for a booster pump. :)

Your Intellichlor is your Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWCG or SWG)..

Glad you got it figured out.
