Pentair EasyTouch - Control Panel & Remote Won't Run Pool

Sounds like the pump is still controlling things. When they're "listening" to the ET, their on-board screens don't display status. I think they just read "Disabled" or something like that. I'm not even sure you can turn on the pump manually when it's properly sync'd to an ET, the whole on-board control system goes offline. From the manual:

The pump control panel is disabled when communicating with an EasyTouch and/or IntelliTouch system. The EasyTouch and/or IntelliTouch system
will not start communicating with the pump until the pump is assigned to a circuit. The default pump address is “1” (only address for EasyTouch system).

Sorry, I'm not familiar with how to start from scratch. Jim's the man, hopefully he'll check back in soon...

It sounds like your Easytouch is not talking to the pump....

If the VFD is pump is connected to the Easytouch, the display on the pump should say "Display Not Active"... if it says anything different then it's not talking to the Easytouch - are the Yellow/Green (D+/D-) data lines from the pump still connected to the comm port on the Easytouch?

Sometimes when I replace an outdoor panel (like an Easytouch or Intellitouch) and power it up, the pump does not talk to the new panel until I press reset at the outdoor panel... give that a try

Mike,

Since you removed the battery I believe that all of your programming is gone. Like O says above , the pump must say "Display Not Active".. I suspect that the com port on your main board is a goner.

One thing you could try is to make sure the EasyTouch knows you have an IntelliFlo...

Menu, Settings, IntelliFlo, Pump #1 and then select "VS" or whatever IntelliFlo you have... Then set the RPM to say 1500 and the circuit to "pool".

Once you get the pump to say "Display not active" you will have reprogram all the schedules and pump speeds.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey guys,
Just for kicks I set the clock and scheduled a few circuits on an easytouch... then I disconnected power and pulled the battery. I left the thing alone for a while and when I powered it back up the schedules were still there but the clock was reset to 12:00. So it seems like the schedules are written to eeprom and the battery is just to keep the clock updated. Learned something new!

O,

That's what I saw. Schedules were still there, but clock needed to be reset. Tomorrow, I'll try Jim's advice above to see if the easytouch knows I have an Intelliflow with hopes of getting the VS to display not active. Am hoping I don't have two bad boards! This is getting real pricey.

Thanks

Tom,

Thanks for the feedback... That is what I get for "assuming"... :p

But, I was not about to take my battery out in order to find out..

Jim, yeah I know what you mean... it's something I've wanted to verify for a while now, Mike just gave me an excuse to try it! Predictably, I got the same result on the intellitouch.

Mike, it sounds like your pump speeds should still be set in the Easytouch's Menu > Settings > IntelliFlo > Pump #1 that Jim mentioned, so you shouldn't have to change or re-select your pump type. And as long as the D+/D- (yellow/green) communication wires are connected between the pump and the comm port and the dead transceiver is not connected, the ET should see the pump after hitting reset. **Shut the power off to the whole pool panel if you need to unscrew any wires from the comm port connectors... you will blow the comm port on our ET if you short the data lines to red/black.

Thank you all -- it looks like I'm screwed and both boards are bad. I've done the hard reset, powered off the breakers, disconnected the comm line to the pump and entered the "backdoor" on the pump. All indications are that both boards are gone -- and that there is no communication to the pump. It can only be run manually. I spoke to Pentair technical support and they claim that is accurate. Is Sunplay your best advice for getting both boards? Looks like this is going to be much more expensive than I had hoped, after I figured out how to get Easy Touch to power on without the transceiver connected.

When it comes to installing the new boards, I'm assuming your recommendation is that I take pictures (or notes) of all the current settings and pump speeds so I can easily re-program the EasyTouch to the pool builder specifications?

Mike,

Sorry about your loss...

I would buy the main board and ScreenLogic and scrap the Pentair remote.

I say this because programming an ET with ScreenLogic is 10 x easier.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Mike,

The main thing you need to know is what each relay (Aux Circuit) does.. As an example:.. Aux one turns on the pool light, Aux two turns on the Feature pump.. (Or whatever your Aux buttons do)..

With ScreenLogic, you just select the Aux circuit and tell the system what is does..

Programming and scheduling are very easy if you use a PC initially.. You can use a phone later, but I would not use the phone to do the initial programming.. Here are a couple of the ScreenLogic pages...

Here is my circuits page... you can see where I use Aux one to turn on my pool light...

dbtgallery.php

Here is my pump speed page.. you can see that when I am in the Pool mode, the pump runs at 1200 RPM, etc...

dbtgallery.php

Here is the scheduling page... You can see where at I run my pump 24/7 and at 7:49 am I run my waterfall for 10 minutes..

dbtgallery.php

If you look back at the pump speed page, you can see when the waterfall circuit is turned on, the pump speed increase to 2700 RPM..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ugh, sorry they're both dead! Sell that remote and recoup some of your costs . Somebody on the forum, I forget who, was looking for a replacement remote last week.

Guys, isn't there more than one comm port, or set of pins? Any chance it's just the traces that are fried, and that maybe the other set of pins are still active? Long shot, I'm sure, but maybe worth a try?

there's just 1 port on the easytouch and the intellitouch, even though some boards have an extra comm port connector there is still only 1 actual port.

the easytouch 4/8 and intellitouch i5 only have 1 physical comm port connector connector whereas the intellitouch i7/9/10 have two but they're wired together on the board

Dirk, it was a pretty good instinct considering how burned up Mike's transceiver card was! ;)

Mike, I sent you a private message

Mike, I sent you a private message - your et8 is likely repairable/replaceable for much less.

I was just scrambling. It pains me to think he's going to have to spend hundreds to replace a board that probably only has a burned up $3 part...

Hello Friends!
I hate to re-open this thread, but here's an update. I bought a new main control board. I attached everything in the same spot that it was before, EXCEPT the line to the antenna since I won't be using a remote or screen logic until I can get the main board to run correctly. I copied all my settings over to the new board and re-programmed it. As soon as I power on the box by turning on the circuit breakers, my black cleaner pump starts running. This never happened previously. Also, it appears the main Variable Speed pump still is not "talking to" the new board. How do I stop the black cleaner pump from turning on with power, and how do I reset the Variable Speed pump to understand if there's another issue at the pump level -- since the new board replacement alone didn't seem to do the trick.

What would you all do? I'll follow any advice/steps you can possibly offer me. Thanks!
