Pentair 250 Natural Gas Unit Tripping House Feed Breaker

Weird issue. Pentair 250 NG is tripping open the house 120V feed breaker (GFCI) about 10 seconds AFTER positive ignition and heat being generated. If I keep the manual gas valve closed the heater starts up normally but activates the SERVICE HEATER light AFTER the ignition failure (not unexpected since the unit gas supply is manually isolated with manual valve).

Dave posted a similar experience with power supply breaker tripping open in 2020. Never saw the final resolution but curious if Dave is still on here.

Hard to understand how a natural gas pool heater is tripping the feed breaker as described, and only when the gas it available. Perhaps without the gas, the system does not get far enough into the start sequence to develope the short (but again, the breaker trips about 10 secs AFTER the gas is flowing and the heat is being generated).

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to TFP.

Dave has a heat pump and you have a gas heater. Two totally different animals.

You can be having a GFCI trip which has nothing to do with a short.

Is anything else on the breaker?

What amp is the breaker?

Put a clamp on ammeter on the electrical feed to the MasterTemp heater and see what amps it is drawing?

You open up the heater and check the electrical box for wetness or signs of rodents being in the heater?
