My pool had an ugly patch on top of a patch done by the previous homeowner. It didn't appear to leak last summer, but after opening the pool last weekend, I was losing 3/4" overnight. It appears that patches failed over the winter. It is a really tricky location to patch, because the tear is in the seam between the vertical liner that goes up to the edge of the pool, and the horizontal liner on the top step. I noticed today that the gap is getting larger and I think this might be because the tear created a low spot and more water is flowing out. I'm also concerned that there is no support underneath the step at that point. I wonder if the water washed away the support material (sand, foam?). Given these pictures, is it feasible to patch this crack without getting to the underside of the step and adding support? Digging around the edge of the pool seems like a major undertaking.
I've drained the water so the top step is not under water anymore, and no more water is leaking out through the crack.
What is the best way to repair this?
Thanks
