Owner build needing help w SWG

So im in NJ and gonna start on my vinyl liner steel wall pool in March. I was hoping to get the pool dug early Nov. but got delayed w last minute problem w town after already being approved so it got cold too fast to do liner and I played it safe waiting for spring.

pool is a 14x30 3.5' to 6' wedge pool and I have everything but a heater, light and a SWG. I have a hayward ecostar VS pump and a hayward cartridge filter (C4030 oversized) and Im trying to just finish the puzzle now while I have time. I did alot of reading and I am going to oversize the SWG as recommended. Can someone explain to me or point me to a site that explains the setups for SWG as far as whats needed on users end if you dont have automation and what automation does for you? The hayward equip was very well priced (off season pricing) im not brand loyal pentair etc is the same to me but any recommendations would be much appreciated......thanks in advance

Without automation you are free to chose whatever equipment you like, regardless of brand.

But.. with automation, you are often limited to equipment that works with that brand of automation. We always recommendation that the Automation system, any VS pump, and any SWCG all be the same brand to help ensure that the equipment can "talk" to each other.

You do not want your SWCG to be on when the pump is not running. In the old days, where everyone had a single speed pump, this was not an issue. Everyone had a time clock that turned on both the pump and the SWCG at the same time.

Most new VS pumps have an internal time clock, that gets power 24/7, and unfortunately they do not control any external items. (A few pumps do, so you might want to check your specific pump) So, in comes the old time clock again. You would run the power to your Cell's controller box through the old time clock. You would then set your pump's internal timer to run when you want and set the old time clock so that it would run inside the hours for the pump... as an example... Set the pump to run from 9 am to 9 pm and set the SWCG to run 10 am until 8 pm... this allows a little slop in case the clocks get a little out of sync.
