I have a cracked volute on my pool pump. The replacement part is $215 and the pump is pretty old, so at that price I am looking at new pumps instead. However, the more I read about sizing a pump and head and flow rates the more confused I get. I'm hoping someone here can help me.
My current pump motor is 1 HP, but the label on the basket says 1 1/2 HP, so I'm thinking the motor was replaced at some point. To be honest I am not happy with my current flow rate. It has always seemed too low. When my heater was working I couldn't get it to run due to low flow while filtering, even with a clean filter. I have a cousin who works for a pool builder and he is suggesting a Whisperflo (not just trying to sell me something as he suggested I'll likely get a better deal online than through him). He also suggested 1 1/2 HP since that is what it appears it was using originally.
Some plumbing details:
Pipe size is 1.5 inch
2 skimmers and 1 drain run in parallel to pad.
Single return pipe to 3 eyeballs to pool.
DE filter, I believe it is 36 sq ft. Says max flow is 72.
Old propane heater that doesn't currently work but is still hooked up.
Skimmer 1: 25 ft of pipe, 5 90s
Skimmer 2: 70 ft of pipe, 5 90s
Drain: 44 ft of pipe, 5 90s
3 suction pipes are joined in a 4 way cross.
9 ft of pipe at pad, 8 90s and 2 45s.
About 110 ft of return pipe, 4 90s, and 2 tees.
Had to kind of guess where and how the underground pipe is laid out as I have no real idea. Length estimates include horizontal and vertical pipes.
