Output losing Pressure.

AG, 27’. 1.5h Hayward. No clog in impeller. New umbrella in sand filter. New sand last year. Not very dirty just cloudy. Have to backwash about every hour to maintain pressure. Have never had to do that before. Kid at the pool shop says that’s “ok”. I can’t imagine how because I am backwashing all the chemicals out. Any ideas what’s wrong or what I should do?

Re: Output losing Pressure.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have a full set of test results, preferably from your own test kit?

Sounds like algae is plugging the filter. But more information is needed.

Also, can you put more detail in your signature? See Pool School - Read This BEFORE You Post

Take care.

Re: Output losing Pressure.

Welcome to TFP.

You'll find that we're numbers people here. :) Text descriptions don't mean much to us. We like real numbers.

You say that the output is losing pressure, and by that I assume that you mean the return(s) are losing flow out them.

The filter pressure should be rising if it's clogging up. If that's happening then you need to do a little reading around here and get a good test kit (if you don't already have one) and SLAM Process the pool.

It's not uncommon to have to backwash the filter pretty often when clearing algae.

Re: Output losing Pressure.

Those test results imply you need to SLAM Process. Can you put what test kit you are using in your signature?

I would suggest draining at least 50% of the pool and refilling. Then adjust pH to 7.2 and SLAM.

Take care.
