Happy Memorial Day Weekend!! I am awaiting my replacement regent r-0013, so I have no idea what my CYA is. My other readings are:
FC .6
PH 7.4
TA 50
Without knowing my CYA, what would you experts do regarding FC & TA? My regent will not be in until Thursday. Thanks for any advice.

I would leave the pH and TA alone and simply add a little regular bleach to increase the FC to about 3 ppm. Nothing crazy since you may have no CYA, we don't know. But at .6 you're open to algae, so you can add just a little. Make sure to use the PoolMath though.

When was your last test?

I would add enough chlorine to get to 3 ppm FC. Maintain that until you get your CYA test.

TA, unless you have to add alot of acid due to rising pH, I would leave it. Or, if you prefer, add 20 ppm of TA worth of baking soda. Up to you.

Take care.

Thank you both! Just used pool math and added 128 ounces of 6% bleach and a little under the recommended amount of baking soda. I have no clue what the CYA is. I’m guessing very low, as I only added what I had remaining in the bag from last season because I figured the amount was pretty much nonexistent due to all of the water loss over winter and spring. Can’t wait for Thursday to be able to get the exact number.

To follow up, my vsp is running from 9am-8pm and chlorinator is set to 30%. What would you adjust the chlorinator percentage to? And I know it will depend on how I adjust my my CYA once I figure that, but obviously chlorinator percentage is too low right now. I am having to reconfigure everything, because my pump was continually running last year and I now realize that it’s just not necessary.

You should remove any pucks and discontinue the use of your chlorinator unless you need to be away from the pool for a few days.

Liquid chlorine should be used for a SLAM and for daily maintenance.

Take care.
