Our House Anchor

I would recommend going with a rectangular main drain which is also VGB compliant. http://www.poolfittings.com/channel-pebble-top/

This link is actually for the alternate cover which can accept pebble to make it blend in. But it goes with the A&A brand channel drain referenced in the drawings.

This will ensure you have zero issues with any model of pool robot you go with getting high-centered (stuck) on them. The drains also allow debris to be brushed into them, versus the convex covers which have much smaller holes and by their rounded nature, don't lend to easily accepting debris.

Also decide what color you want all PVC in-pool fittings to be. White is common, but in some pools, gray or black look better.

Dig day!!!

I heard from our PB yesterday that they would be doing the layout today, but apparently they are digging too. I was shocked to see an excavator in my backyard this morning. They had a hard time of it, we requested the PB to remove a piece of concrete from our existing patio to make room for more pool. The patio was poured a little thicker than they expected.

Hi Jay, I wanted to throw the same suggestion I made to the Austin build.... I strongly recommend at least a few embedded umbrella holders, like this. <$20 on Amazon and your builder can probably install them for free when you're pouring the concrete deck. Check this post for the whole detail.

Reading other peoples construction posts I saw the same suggestions. Talked to our PB and he already had them in the layout plan. No charge to us, or at least no separate line item. ;)

Sweet, we love ours. Only regret is not doing more, and not aligning them based on summer sun (we aligned ours in Feb when the sun was low). 40 lb blocks of round concrete, or giant ugly sand filled plastic containers are so yesterday :)

They have some excellent anchor points for a shade sail or two, which have a few advantages over an umbrella (no pole, no holes, no weighs, 100% wind proof). Course there's no reason you can't have both.

Looking good.

One thing that caught my eye was the cracking around the corner post where they had cut the piece out. Make sure that doesn't end up slipping out and bringing down the corner of whatever it is holding up.

Sharp eye, that would be the roof of my patio that is being held up. I agree, I am a little concerned but I think it will be okay to take care of later.

We have a natural shade sail!! Assuming it survives the dig. It will shade most of the deep end for a good portion of the day, definitely through the hottest part.

Ha, the best kind, right? I only need my sail for mid day, then my trees take over. I had to add solar on the roof to make up for them!

You are going to have a bit of a leaf challenge, though, aren't you? Always something!

So they should be done with the dig tonight or tomorrow morning. It’s taking a long time between dump truck loads so it’s going a little slow.

Can someone advise me as to what the depth dimensions should be to the dirt and the steel when they put it in. In other words, if it should be 6’ deep how deep should I measure it dug before gunite?

Roughly add 8" for the steel, gunite, and plaster. You also want to make sure your PB uses WATER depth for his depth of dig and such. That is from the plaster to the middle of the skimmer. Some will measure to the bottom of the coping for the depth.
