Am resurfacing the pool. Installer uses Orenda Technologies SC-1000 Scale and Metal Control to deal with metals during startup. Company web site does not reveal contents. Any experience with this? Any good? Any bad? Thanks.

That’s a standard product used widely in the industry. It will help to reduce calcium dust during plaster hydration and carbonation. It is a diphosphonic acid eventually breaks down into orthophosphates. It’s fine to use during startup.

[EDIT]

Based on the orenda website, they say it’s not a phosphate based anionic compound. They might be using a poly anionic chelating agent. There are many based on carboxylic acid but they are typically more expensive and less effective than phosphate based chelating agents. There are also ammonium based chelating agents as well, but those would cause chlorine demand and form CCs from oxidation.

Either way, the use of a sequestering agent at startup is standard practice and will have no long term consequences. Just don’t get roped into using them on a regular basis as it is unnecessary unless you have an established metal problem with your fill water.

Ok, will let 'em proceed. Thanks.

Established metal problem? Well, I think we do. Have had well water tested many times and results are quite variable like
Fe have gotten .05 and ND (not detectable)
Mn have gotten .001 and ND
Cu have gotten .014 and .002 and ND

but is true white drain covers etc turn yellow and old plaster was discolored yellow (of course plaster was decades old)
so I think we do have a problem and a whole house filter is not an option right now
so

what metal program would you recommend? to add to the FC pH CYA CH TA shuffle?
or
is there a filter that could quickly easily be added at the fill valve?

thanks again
