New pics with regular test
I don't like looking at pics because the sample isn't supposed to sit long enough to get a clear picture of it.

You're supposed to pour, glance fast and continue or quit. The mix swirling from being freshly poured is part of the test, along with the light from being waist high.

Pour to the 10s, back to the sun, mid day. Look away and then fast glance down. When I don't see it in that flash of a glance, that's my level.

^^^^ do that and I'll happily take your word for whatever you saw. :)

today Sunday we have had a tremendous amount of rain in NY-- I definitely have to take some water out this week- by a backwash because the pool had plenty of water added to it and it already was up to the middle screw on the skimmer. So I think my CYA will definitely be lower. Had torrential downpours. Sorry for the continuous posts as the other person replied above- just want to stay abreast of all the knowledge I can.

Rain will help get your CYA down some more. Let mother nature help dilute for free :) I doubt you'll see much change from just one storm. I'd call it good we're at 70 and just check it again monthly. Unless of course you get 8+ inches in a month like I have and have to drain every week. :ROFLMAO:

Even so. 8/48ths is 16%, or 11.2 at 70CYA, *if* it didn't mix and perfectly pushed old water out with each new drop.

With any kind of mixing it would be a loss of less than 10, which might not even register on the test a month later. :ROFLMAO:

Here’s a video grab from a June storm. This one dumped almost 4 inches in an hour according to my rain gauge. That white stuff is mothball sized hail.

I think Newdude has one of the best looking pools
Why THANK you.

Between you and me, the patio/border was in the brochure as a driveway, but we loved it and gambled it would work. I see it in people's front yards from time to time and giggle.

Good morning all. Long time no speak. Hopr all is well with everyone. Not much too say. Other than my pool looking really nice and chemicals r ok as well thanks to u people. I do have a question. My wife really wants to buy a pool alarm for out beautiful grandson. I know or think i asked before but could u give us a reminder. Remember our pool is above ground. I would rather not do any drilling? My luck i would put a hole in the outer wall (LOL). Is there a reasonably priced alarm that is effective and meets our needs. Thank u guys. So much again

Good morning Monte!
The pool looks gorgeous! 😍

Sorry I can’t help with alarms. Someone will be along shortly that can. Don’t depend on one though. They’re a nice addition but nothing beats keeping your eyes out. I have a feeling that cute little guy has a hidden mischievous streak.

The water alarm while well meaning, and also required by code here is problematic. Any medium breeze causes ripples that it doesn't know didn't come from someone entering the water. They go off all the time and not only does everyone get used to all the false alarms, they quickly remove it to silence the annoyance.

They are pretty much just a box like thingie which hangs over the edge. They have a float which triggers an alarm when the float wiggles. This one had an onboard alarm and also a remote device for inside the house.

I truly get it. But as my wife just said and she is the brains in my family( i am the braun). We would only have it in the pool when he is over and thats it. So any commercial brand that u recommend. Also. Look again at my pool. My wife has been looking for a fence like a mesh fence thst we cn also take apart when he is not here that could either go around the pool OR the deck? Any ideas here as well?

This is Mine. Or search 'above ground pool alarm'. There are over the rail and floatie ones.

I'd want a Katch a Kid type mesh fence. Google those and a few other brands will come up. You'd have to sink pipes in the deck, but then you could pop the fence in and out as needed. Or out for the winter.

You could also add a hotel door style slide lock to the backdoor, high enough no littles will reach it. Theres many versions/styles available and would stop access to the yard. If the door has a deadbolt, get a keyed on both sides version and keep the key in a place he can't get too when he's over.

No matter what, set rules and expectations. He can go out back anytime, but get Grammy or Grampy first. Reinforce it often asking what to do if he wants to go out back. He'll end up looking forward to getting someone to go out back with. Grammy went last time. I want Grampy this time !!

Then secure the door anyway.
