First, I'll start with the THANKS, your answers here fixed it! The problem: The control box showed "solar sensor open". Went to the manufacture instruction book. Nothing there helped. I called Pentair help desk. The fella said it was broke and to replace it or call a repair guy
I found TFP and looked at an old thread. Three actions were suggested.
1. Remove the control box faceplate. Switch the water and solar sensor wires. IF the water sensor wire didn't work on the solar sensor terminal then the PROBLEM IS ____________________. (Sensor or motherboard). Sorry, already forgot. I figure you will correctly state it in your response.
2. Also, suggested was to use a "multimeter" to test. Boyfriend had a multimeter (HVAC guy).
3. Follow the solar sensor wires length up to the roof solar sensor. Check for breaks or corrosion.

Voila, it was corrosion at the roof end of the solar sensor line. Few minutes later it was fixed. You saved the cost of the sensor and a service call. In reviewing your website, I see that you are a 501c3 charitable foundation. Cool or rather warm in my case. I'm going to make a donation. I added open water sensor to the thread name as that will allow the internet to pull TFP for that problem too. Thanks!

Thanks kimkats, I called Pentair again and told them the story. He sent out a memo to the group. He related that he would come to TFP when he didn't have an answer and also he suggested the web site to customers when appropriate. I suggested sending it up channels for discussion of recommending TFP as a usual thing. Like Mr. Macy did in "Miracle on 34th Street. I made a $30 donation. I'm guessing a repair call would have been 175-200$ based on my last use of a repair guy. I now feel more secure knowing ya'll are here :)
To others reading this TFP is a non-profit 501c3 (tax deductible) foundation.
