OmniLogic Valve Automation Programming Plea for Help

We’ve just recently installed a pool / spa that shares the pump & heater between them.

We’ve read EVERY SINGLE word of the install manuals as well as spending 2 mos surfing YouTube videos and this forum on how to program “A/B” valve actuator settings in the OmniLogic panel without luck. We still have to move the valves manually despite actually owning & have installed Hayward GVA-24 actuators.

We’ve programmed in the valve locations but haven’t been able to find the place to set the “A/B” positions to enable the actuator valve change when using the “Pool” or “Spa” theme.

Did I mention we’ve ready EVERY SINGLE WORD in the install manual? What are we missing / doing wrong??!?

Welcome to TFP.

What do you mean by A/B valve settings?

The settings for where the actuator stops are set by cams in the actuators and not programmed in the Omnilogic.

Show us pics of your equipment pad, the valves and actuators.

Which is the Return on VLV1, and which is the Suction on VLV2?

Thank you @ajw22 for the reply.

Sorry I didnt articulate my question well. I’ve already set cam positions for the valves.

My “A/B” reference is from the manual and referring to the actual travel of the valve itself from open to closed for the requested function.

The installer didn’t label the valves so our interpretation of suction and return is a best guess but not the heart of the question at hand.

The valves don’t travel at all when function is activated in “Themes”. We figure this the first obstacle to overcome.

This picture is “spa” mode as per our pool care person (who btw isn’t fluent in automation, we already asked).

The valves move when you switch between POOL mode and SPA mode.

In Hayward speak you Select a Body of Water - POOL or SPA.

You never control the valves directly. You select the body of water or function like SPILLOVER and the Omni moves the valves as necessary.

You should not be looking in Themes to control the valves.

Show me pics of your entire equipment pad. I cannot tell from the pic you posted which valve is SUCTION and which is RETURN.

SUCTION should be the valve in front of your pump.

RETURN is the valve after your filter/heater/chlorinator.

The actuators have a 3 position toggle switch on the side - ON1 - OFF - ON2.

Is the toggle switch set to ON1 or ON2 and not in the middle OFF position?

When you move the toggle from ON1 to ON2 does the actuator turn?

OK @ajw22 - requested picture attached, micro switches are in the OFF position in this picture and the valves are configured for the ”Pool” body of water as the pool person has instructed us.

The micro switches are the ‘manual’ method we’d used to move the valves to use the Spa, so yes, the values do move when the switches are thrown.

Ok, so your actuators work.

There is no reason for the toggle switches to be OFF. Put then at ON1 or ON2 and then switch the bodies of water as described above.

@ajw22 - YOU‘RE GENIUS! The valves work perfectly after setting a Theme and saving as a Favorite!!!! I wish I had found you back in June!! Thank you very much.

I realize now that the OmniLogic can only toggle the actuator 180 degrees. The way my installer constructed the plumbing, a 1/2 throw on the actuator has utility. I was looking for a 50% calibration (or 3 position settings ) which doesn’t appear to exist. Seemingly the actuator goes until the micro switches on the cam make it stop…so there are only 2 possible settings.

We are, however, continuing to trip over our Hayward 300h heater. We have two challenges:

1.) It kicks on when Favorite button is pushed for either Pool or Spa when we only want it to kick on for Spa
2.) It doesn’t toggle between Pool or Spa on the heater itself despite being saved appropriately when the ”Theme” was created.

How is your knowledge base on Hayward heaters & Omnilogic?

1.) It kicks on when Favorite button is pushed for either Pool or Spa when we only want it to kick on for Spa

I will observe that you are expecting more sophistication from the Omnilogic then it has.

For each Body of Water - POOL or SPA - you set the heater setting you want in the Control Features screen.

If you don't want the heater to run in POOL mode then set the temperature down to 60F and DISABLE the heater off in the POOL Features Screen.

2.) It doesn’t toggle between Pool or Spa on the heater itself despite being saved appropriately when the ”Theme” was created.

The heater it self does not toggle between POOL or SPA. The heater does not know or care which body of water it is heating.

The Omni controls the heater ON and OFF. Ignore the heater control panel and let the Omni control it.

Let me know if that all makes sense.
