Not sure what this is in my pool I have had in in the past

Does anyone know if this is some form of algae - I have had in my pool late last season and now they are back.
Pool store employee didn't think it was algae but I don't think they have a clue

They are green I will post the one from this year and last

Looks like a segmented seed pod off a tree or bush. I'll see if I can identify...

I have confirmation from a VEEEEERY trusted source. Caterpillar frass that has absorbed water.

^^^^^ Exactly that! I identified the same for another member awhile back. Found it in my
pool and on my deck a few years ago and googled like a maniac. Love the "designer" name
for caterpillar poop! I say, Buffy, is that Frass in our pool!
