Not sure what is going on?

Hi,

Not sure what is going on? This past Monday, when I was at work, apparently our water level got too low and pump didn’t work well during day and I came home to cloudy green pool. I couldn’t believe it as last weekend pool looked great!

Anyway I started SLAM and pool is a little better, but far from how it usually is. Long story short yesterday I manually vacuumed to waste, backwashed filter. I had been using my dolphin during week daily and sometimes ran it twice. Our pool is surrounded by trees and we always have stuff blowing in pool. The skimmer basker sock yesterday and most days recently had tanish debris on sock. So I’m not sure if I have algae vs pollen. Yesterday in frustration I dumped 2 gallons bleach when my chlorine was 12.

anyway CYA 30. FC last night 22.5, CC was .05. This AM FC 22.5, CC 1.0/1.5 borderline. I just don’t know what to do as FC didn’t change. I am posting pics-esp of stairs so you can see what stuff looks like. We have so much stuff it seems always at bottom of pool, or when I brush walls stuff comes off walls. Could I just have a lot of dirt from trees? I could prob vacuum/brush 2-3 times a day lately.

Any ideas what is up? What is so upsetting to me is I’ve been able to keep pool so beautiful and now I just can’t get it fixed. A pool guy is coming tomorrow as I also think we have a leak. Ugh!

thanks!

The stuff on the steps looks a lot like algae. Seems a little late in the year for pollen. I think the SLAM was the right move, especially since along with the stuff in the water your CCs are elevated. When was the last time you did a good sand "deep clean"? With the added backwashes, you might need to confirm the CYA in a day or two to ensure it doesn't drop below 30. Maintain th FC of 12 and keep SLAM'ing.

Thanks! I just haven’t been sure of what I have been dealing with. So with it most likely being algae will keep on SLAMMING.

sand filter new this spring with all new sand.

Thanks again!

One thing I wasn’t sure of, why didn’t my FC go down overnight if it’s algae?

That's an odd one. You would think it should right? Keep an eye on things for the next day or two. The reasons we have 3 SLAM criteria is because they don't always show the same (expected) reaction at the same time. If after another day or two you don't see improvement, or things get worse, we might have to re-look at things from a different angle.
