I’m helping a friend out who moved to the desert three weeks ago. This is his first time with a pool. It took him a week (or two) to hire a pool guy. The pool was clear when he took ownership .As a courtesy I think the Realtor had friend of theirs toss in some bleach in from time to time, but again the details are not clear.
During that time these yellow stains started to appear in the corners of his plaster before he hired a pool guy. Important to note that our temps have been in the 100°’s the past couple weeks
My friend is not clear as to all that took place, but this is what he recalls.
The guy he hired thought the pool needed to be drained and “sand blasted?” but for now he through in package called SHOCK and maybe some liquid bleach. That happened a few days ago. The pool guy told him to throw in some bleach (daily?), but with no knowledge or clear instruction y friend chose to do nothing.
I learned all this a couple days ago and pleaded with him to let me come over to take a look and test his water. I went over today about 4 hours after his pool guy was there. He told the pool guy that he had a friend coming over who managed his own pool just to take a look. He said the pool guy's demeanor notably changed.
For Pool Math I estimated his pool volume at 9,000, but it may be less. If I drew a rectangle around its widest areas it would be about 25’x18’.
The fact that the pool guy has been there at least 2 times and apparently not put any stabilizer in it is a real concern to me.
I’m heading over tomorrow at 3pm.
1 - Try pressing some Vit C tablets against the stain to see if it lightens
2 - Test the FC again. Probably tossing in more liquid bleach. (I believe his SWG is set to 80%)
3 - If I can get to his Screen Logic controls, I was going to put some stabilizer in. Since I really don’t know his volume, I want to error on a low CYA target level to start. Maybe 40 or 50?
Here are the results of my tests
FC: 8.5 (why is Pool Math saying the target range is 1-3?)
PH: 7.5
TA: 110
CH: 350
CYA: 0
SALT: 4200
Temp: 101°
CSI: 0.12
