Being in the same area as you, I put in a heater last year (found a great deal on Craigslist). Before the heater, the pool wasn't comfortable for me until July and only lasted until middle of August, and I keep a solar cover on the pool. I used the heater maybe 4 times last year and so far 3 times this year. The kids don't mind, but the adults do.
If you're in Lake Twp, then you should have same gas rate I do, and my last bill was $40, normally my summer bill is around $25.

Well I'm excited to say we are getting a pool! After 5-6 different quotes from various pool companies, we are going with the 17 x 30 emerald pool sold by Homestead Pools. We found a great installer/excavator who has done pools for 2 of our friends and has installed the same pool we are getting numerous times. He gave us about 10 references and 4 of them had the same pool we are getting.

As for the concrete, plumber, fencing, etc., I ended up going on the Home Advisor and Angie's List websites. Both websites listed contractors but the Home Advisor contractors called me within 1 hour of getting the request.... I cannot say the same for the Angie's List contractors. I have a tree removal company, concrete company, and plumber lined-up.. still need to find an electrician and decide between 2 fencing companies.

I have been reading lots of pool build threads and studied Pool School; our pool is set to be dug in mid-October so we won't get to swim this year but I will have all winter to study some more. I've done several build threads for motorcycles but this pool build thread will be a new experience for me.

Kevin, my wife and I are in THE EXACT SAME scenario as you were last year! My wife and I are teachers in northeast Ohio and got quotes from homestead pools, Ohio pools and some of the others you noted- but I read some really horrible reviews of homestead that scared us-

What did did you end up doing???
