Noob to the forum. Looking for CYA advice

Close enough.
Pump on.
Pour it in about 12" out in front of a return. Slooowly, like a gallon every two minutes, pencil thin stream.
Mark your time, or set a timer for 30 minutes.
Brush around a bit on the bottom (a minute).
After 30 minutes, do your dpd test and post the results (picture of the comparator). I'll be on.

FC looks about a 4

TC looks like 5

ok, if you had any ammonia, it is likely gone.
Next time take a pic in neutral light with a white paper behind it, it really helps you and us.
post up results in the morning and we'll see how much you've lost, and get next steps.

Great, we lost some chlorine overnight, not sure how much. Great job.
  1. Get pool math if you don't have it. Link-->PoolMath
  2. Configure your pool in pool math, use the same login/pw as TFP and enable sharing the in gear menu (upper right).
  3. Get 15 gallons of liquid chlorine. Walmart has Pool Essentials liquid chlorine.
  4. Use pool math to determine how much Liquid to add 3ppm.
  5. Add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per DAY until your kit arrives. nothing else.
  6. When your kit arrives, post a full set of results. FC, CC, pH, TA, CH, CYA.
  7. Then we SLAM. Link-->SLAM Process

You know one thing I did not do last night was closed the chlorinator valve. Not sure how it effects the over night test but

Yikes! Great catch. Likely doesn't matter at this point, we are just trying to keep about 3-5FC in the pool with no CYA to stave off algae growth until you get your kit. No worries...but you are catching on!
Day 2 and I have FC of 5 and TC of 7.5 I'll report back in the morning. I turned off my chlorinator this evening as well
From the DPD? Great. All we are trying to do is keep the algae at bay until your kit arrives.
Just add chlorine for the moment. The fact that you are holding chlorine is good. That means no ammonia.
You are autopilot until the kit arrives.

Morning after update.
FC 4, TC 5
Strange thing i noticed:
Last night I swapped cartridge filters for the filters I just washed in power soak, my psi was 30. I've never seen it this high. Strange thing is they don't look dirty. Owell swapped and back down to 13.
This morning i am already up to 16.

Could this be the whiteish grayish stuff i can barely see on the walls but can feel?

Clean them again. You are filtering dead algae.
Brush at least once a day.
You may be cleaning filters often.

If clean filter pressure is 13, clean when filter pressure rises 25% or 16.
Something is not right with the 30psi set. Should not be 30. My guess is that some chemical from the past have clogged that set.
