Noise from top mount Multiport Valve/Sand Filter

Following i have the same thing but filter runs for about 45 minutes then I see a loss of water through the pump strainer basket lid. i shut off the pump and then change to recirculation water level comes back up everything is moving move it to filter and it runs 45 minutes no problem and then back up to 15 psi and low water. I am going to change the sand (even though it is only a year old) and see if this make a change i have a S180T filter and a Power Flo LX 1.5SPL pump. wondering if i don't have enough pump for my filter because i have zero issues when in recirc or sweeping to waste.

Cindy, it's very possible what you have is a dirty filter or perhaps algae in the water. A build-up of dirt and/or organics (even if clear) can cause a backlog in the filter and restricts water from flowing efficiently through the filter. I get the exact same thing when my filter is dirty. If your filter was cleaned and the same thing happens in a short time, I would be concerned about algae. If you would like, post a full set of water test results for us to review. Maybe we'll see something there as well.

Hi Cindy, I had that same issue as well. I ended up opening the sand filter up, removing the sand I put in a few weeks ago and really rinsed the laterals this time. I put back the sand making sure to even it out as I poured it back in. I also left out about 20lbs from the original 250lbs i put it as I suspect I did not remove ALL the old sand originally. I started it up in ricirc then backwash for a few min then rinse. Then in filter and the sound did remain for a bit but eventually went away and only comes back temporarily when i empty the pump basket lid. My assumption is that the MPV/Sand Filter needs time to purge any air trapped inside the tank. Making sure there is no leaks in any connections is key I think.

Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this.
