Liquid Chlorine
So after a few years of being in this house and maintaining the pool from what the store sells me, and this year being such a pain, I finally decided to find alternate sources. I’ve read things online before (Reddit and such), but every other post contradicts itself. A friend turned me on to TFP so I’ve been taking my time trying to read as much as possible.
I think I really just need to focus on checking on it more often. My routine has been once a week taking the water to be tested, adding $50-$100 in chems, keeping the tabs In the chlorinator topped off, then by the time I’m going back the next week it’s starting to go south again.

Just always seemed like no matter what I did, my chlorine was low, with a 12k pool, and the chlorinator turned all the way up, it was still low. Even when I was on a SWG, I was low. The store is blaming my nitrates at 10pm being the problem, they gave me a ton of stuff which spiked my stabilizer, so now I’m in the process of diluting that with the hose.

Long story short, the last of my tabs dried up, so I threw one last bag of shock (without stabilizer) in there to clean up the algae this morning, ordered a k-2006 and got some liquid chlorine from Walmart. Once the temp dies down tonight I’m going to test it and see where it’s at. How long will the shock affect the test? More-so, if I shocked it this morning and test tonight and it’s on point, do I just leave it until it starts to drop again? Or should I add a little to keep it maintained? The hard part for me is it’s honestly hard to get out and check it every other day, either we are away, or tied up, and if we are on vacation, I’ll leave some tabs in it, but always come back to a green pool. Overall I’m just frustrated 😫😤

Lastly, there a right or wrong liquid chlorine? I know some say shock, but it’s really all shock, just the % matters. This says 10%, so I am getting a few 12.5% from Amazon, but this should do for now.

Welcome to TFP.
You have algae and need to do the SLAM Process
Use the K-2006 test kit and post a full set of results including the CYA which is important to determine your FC level.
Please read Pool Care Basics
You have the right liquid chlorine but you will need 10 or more gallons to perform a SLAM.
When using liquid chlorine, you will need to add chlorine daily to maintain the chlorine level because UV and bather load are constantly lowering the FC level.
