This in-ground, vinyl liner, pool came with the house. It is 20,000 gallons. (Yes, I'll have to do the pool math.) Today the readout says the salinity is 3.0 My question is, what does the Salt generator need to be set on? The pool store says 20 but at 20 the salinity drops below the recommended 3.0-3.7 to 2.7-2.9. Right now I have it set on 50 (as of yesterday.) My FC had dropped to 1 although the pool water is crystal clear. I can see every dot on the liner in the deep end. I'm assuming by reading here, I have high CYA. I poured in 32 oz of 6% bleach last night. Panicked guessing! (I have no clue, just thought I needed to do something, even if wrong!) I have gone to 3 grocery stores and 6% is the highest original bleach I can find. I ordered the TF-100 last night. I have been using the strips. Unfortunately the pool store had me slowly pour 8.5 lbs of granular stabilizer into the skimmer 3 weeks ago. I run my pump 24/7. We closed in Oct 2 years ago. The pool was open, running and beautiful. We had it opened last May and had to put in a new pump. Because of travel we have only had it open about 4 weeks.

We won't be able to help much (chemically) until you receive yoru TF-100. That will give us the accurate info we need. Until then, if you have a basic FC drop tester, use it and try to keep at least 5-8 FC in the water. I suspect your FC could be higher if needed since you probably have a high CYA level, but we don't want to guess.
Take some time to read-up on the following and post those TF-100 test results as soon as you can.

I received my TF-100 yesterday, way earlier than expected! These are my results. FC - 4.0, CC - 1.5, Total C- 5.5. Cal Hardness 100 ppm, Total Alkalinity - 100. CYA- 40 (from the daily blue box) Chlorine 5, bromine 10, PH- 8.2 I guess this means I need to bring the alkalinity down and chlorine up?

Thank you! Yes, I have used lots of pool store shock (including 1 pkg once a week), algaecides, Ph up, Ph down, Balance pak 300 and clarifiers weekly at their recommendations from my water sample. Also added the granular stabilizer directly into the skimmer! We opened the pool last week in June and it was covered all winter.

I hope you have stopped using those pool store potions. Some residuals of those chemicals may be giving you the high CC. Do the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and see if your water passes.
Wow... you've probably spent more on pool chemicals just this year than I've spent in 8 years! Pool store chemicals are overpriced chemicals you can avoid buying for the most part.

So true! I am ready to turn my pool into an herb garden. Each time I take a sample in, it's $200-$300. Last year was a new pump, a $2000. leak under the concrete by a return. all the chemicals and this year there is a 6" place where the liner or the hard thing holding it has turned loose. Pool guy says about 150. - 200. to repair! Having a pool is not this much fun. I need TFP care for dummies! To turn my SWG off, I have to turn off my pump. One button turns both on and off. Can I just turn my SWG to 00? I don't know what else to do.
