"No Flow" at Lower RPM of my Hayward Variable Pump

Recently, I have noticed the infamous "no flow", red indicator being on at lower RPM (been testing, and even at 2800RPM). The indicator goes away when I run my pump at 100% 3450 RPM. I acid-cleaned the cell during the opening, and the sensor wire actually sits "before" the water passes through the cell. Not sure this is a sensor issue but wanted to get some feedback before I replace it. No scaling, no powder stuff, etc as my pool is rather clean while this was happening. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

PING, I think you hit the nail on its head as I was thinking about backwashing as my first step in diagnosing the issue. Just ran out to check and it was higher than usual (20 psi instead of 15 psi) and just backwashed / rinsed to lower it to 15 psi. Hopefully this works :) On a side note, I usually clean my filter 2-3 times a season, and I may do so over the weekend!!! Thanks for your quick feedback!

Hos,

As you have found out... a dirty filter is the number one reason for a low flow light to come on.. It kind of makes sense.. The flow switch is normally a physical switch that gets pushed closed as the water flows past it.. As your filter gets dirty, the flow of water decreases, and the switch can't close at low RPMs..

I say this because acid washing has nothing to do with the flow switch, no matter where it is located... and the less you acid wash, the longer the cell will last.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim, thanks for the feedback and your advice around the acid washing. This high pressure actually caught me by surprise as we have had consistent PSI over last 1.5 seasons. Plus due to heavy rain over last month or so, I drained the pool numerous times and assumed the pressure will be "ok". In any case, love this forum and received so many, great insights!!
