No built in skimmer diverter. Any options?

Thanks for the explanation. It’s certainly what I observe to be happening. Hopefully that leaf guard cover I ordered allows me to quit having to worry about it so much. As it is I have to worry about a clog burning up my motor and potentially (though probably not very likely) causing a fire in my shed.
