I guess my question has two parts.
1) should there be any chlorine loss each night? And if so, what would a normal range be? Would a large loss possibly indicate a potential problem? Thank you for all your help so far guys this truley is a safe space for dummies lol

Look up the OCLT in Pool School. It is the formal overnight chlorine loss test and will answer your questions.

Basically the FC loss overnight must be under 1ppm. Higher indicates presence of algae.

In my pool anything over 0.5ppm would indicate a problem.

thanks poollz! no I'm not really experiencing any nightly loss at this point in time I just am new to all this and I'm trying to beat the learning curve LOL. I like to be able to recognize problems as they are arriving not after they are fully blown. another quick question is it possible to have an algae bloom starting and still having absolutely crystal clear pool?

How are you testing your levels? You state that you are not experiencing any loss overnight, but do not indicate how you are arriving at this conclusion.

And yes, it is very possible to have an algae bloom and have clear water. You can not determine crystal clear and algae. Algae could form in areas where you have dead spots, etc. Follow the TFP methodology and brush your pool, and you have a high probability of success. Very few members report back to us stating that they followed the FC/CYA relationship and after months of crystal clear water, they woke up to an algae bloom. Water goes from crystal clear, to cloudy, to a tint of green to a full algae bloom. The tell tale signs are always there.

Im happy to report that as of purchasing the pool ive follwed the tfp lifestyle. Its small and i test daily (sometimes many times) and i brush and floss every other day, vacuum daily, change filter cart twice a week and its always 7.6 and crystal clear. 30 cya and i maintain 6fc with liquid chlorine . Im just merely trying to know the signs before i see them in MY pool. As always thanks for all the help here this forum is such a wealth of info its incredible

Thats good to know. Ive been using walmart bleach since i opened about 5 weeks ago or so. I think next year im just gonna spring for a bucket if its cheaper. Its such a small pool i usually only go through about a cup a day lol
