I got 23 years out of my conventional plaster pool even being a three test pool noob—ph, chlorine, cya.
I want to be on top of the other readings now and bought a Taylor test kit with nine tests. The pool was filled a week ago and here’s what I’ve got (low alkalinity and calcium obviously) and I need to know what adjustments and what order I should tackle them in; Total Alkalinity-40ppm, Calcium-90ppm, FC-1ppm, TC-2ppm, Ph-7.8, Cya I didn’t test because there will be none and the pool is in shade until spring and that is when I will address it.

I have to balance a newly filled pool after resurfacing. My previous plaster lasted 23 years and I was just a three test pool noob. The plasterer added sanitizer only. My initial readings are: FC-1ppm, TC-1ppm, Alkalinity-40ppm, Calcium-80ppm, Ph-7.8, Cya- zero obviously.
I have purchased enough sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, sequestering solution, chlorine, and muriatic acid for a 16k gallon pool. I will tackle Cya in March when sunlight actually falls on pool. Pretty sure I shouldn’t add everything at once so my question is what order should I start the process with and how much time between the various chemical additions?

So based on my Cya level of 45 I am supposed to keep the FC at a level that isn’t on my Taylor test kit which maxes out at 5ppm. This is especially confusing if you’re slamming your pool and are to maintain double digit FC levels. So how do you measure levels above 5ppm? Dilution of reagent is my only guess.

You need to use the FAS-DPD test which tests up to 50ppm.

Which Taylor kit do you have now? If it's the K-2005 or less, you need to add the K-1515 to include the FAS-DPD test.
